THE BRITTANY CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN

22ND BREED CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

8TH JULY 2018

Very impressive 2 day show organised by the club with working test on one day and show exhibits on the second.  All dogs were immaculately presented after a day’s work.  Lovely to see so many young handlers exhibiting their own or other peoples’ dogs.  I had 2 very good stewards lovely to see Chris Anderson stewarding for me from the Papillon show world.

MINOR PUPPY
DOG/BITCH 4 ENTRIES

1)      ANDERSONS’ ROCHUS NUGGET what a little gem this beautiful squarely built, cobby bitch puppy is.  Just looked a picture on the stance, if she moved as well could see nothing to beat her, sure enough she is as sound as a pound with true Brittany action.  Super outline on this 8 months old maybe just a little smaller but with good growth should make something special.  Loved her head and expression, neat triangular ears with good set, carriage and use.  Good clean, medium neck to shoulders firm slightly sloping backline to a lovely rump and so well bodied and ribbed.  Lovely boned straight balanced legs and tight feet.  Presented in clean, conditioned flat O/W dense coat.  To top it she is docked. Best Minor Puppy Best Puppy Bitch Best Puppy in Show.

2)      HARES’ ROCHUS NORMAN This boy was so close up to my winner and I know now why he is her litter brother.  Lovely masculine head, super eye colour and lovely set and used ears giving that typical expression, head held on good neck with well angled front with a good depth.  Well-built and balanced with a compact body with rounded ribs presented in a lovely conditioned coat with a good fine texture. Good rump and docked, well developed hindquarters, not as free as his sister but slightly sounder than his brother, very well handled to get the best from him. Best Dog Puppy Res BPiS.

3)      PURAWALS’ ROCHUS NICO

PUPPY DOG 1 ENTRY

1)      ANDERSONS’ ROCHUS NOBLE Very attractive compact and cobby youngster, another 8 months old litter brother.   Lovely head correctly balanced with dark expressive eyes, well set and used ears, correct length of neck into well laid shoulders and firm slightly sloping  back line to good rounded rump, moderate quarters.  Lovely angled fore, chest has enough depth, well ribbed compact body, covered in excellent conditioned Tri coat.  Excellent straight boned legs and round compact feet.  Did not really have time to settle but once into a stride was very sound.

JUNIOR DOG 4
ENTRIES

1)      POOLES’ SANBOSIER NAOS AT LAURREMAR Lovely breed type nicely built with a good square shape with the best front and rear angles.  Was at first a little timid but on being handled had a gentle and a nice temperament and was easy to handle. Good shape to his masculine head, moderate stop, well set and used ears, soft expressive eyes.  Head held well on good neck to shoulder and firm back and rump.  Well bodied with nicely rounded ribs, good depth of chest and brisket, clean well presented fine O/W coat of good texture.  Straight well boned and balanced legs and tight feet.  Very stylish brisk action and sound.

2)      MOONEYS’ CHALLOWMOON NOAH smart dog of good size, shape and well-constructed just preferred the slightly better angles of my winner.  Well put together head, nice stop, good dark expressive eyes, well set ears could be better used to complete his expression.  Medium length to neck set into shoulders with a firm top line sloping slightly to a good rump.  Body of substance and well ribbed back, good depth of chest and brisket covered with a lovely conditioned and presented flat coat.  Moved out on straight well boned legs, holds elbows well.  Good brisk action and sound.

3)      HAYES & WILSONS’ SANBOSIER NEVIS

NOVICE DOG 1 ENTRY

1)      Sanbosier Nevis nice breed type slightly taller and not quite as compact as his brother but very well put together with lovely angulation front and rear.  Nice masculine head, stop a little deep, well set and used triangular ears, alert dark eyes, firm slight slope to backline and a good rump.  Well bodied and ribbed with a very well presented flat dense O/W coat.  Would like more depth of chest, nice brisket and elbows well in on straight well boned legs with tight feet.  Very sound brisk action once he settled, his handler needs to just work a little harder on getting Nevis stood and moved out under his control.

POST GRADUATE DOG 3
ENTRIES

1)      SAMARDZIJAS’ PATOUCHE LAMBERT Very smart young male slightly taller than I like but he is very well built with good construction having lots to like about.  Slightly rounded skull, well set and used ears, nice stop and balanced foreface, alert dark eyes.  A muscled medium neck, good shoulders correctly angulated front with depth to chest and brisket.  Elbows in on straight well boned legs and round compact feet.  Well ribbed back body could be a little shorter in loin.  So well presented in a short flat nicely conditioned B/W coat.  Muscular broad quarters moderate stifle with short hocks, very sound brisk mover covers the ground well.

2)      FINCHS’ JASSENDUE MANET’S MEDLEY AM CETGUELI presents a nice outline on the stance and is slightly smaller than my winner but needing more weight to fill his frame.  Masculine head good width of skull, nice stop, would like a better ear set, expressive eyes, slightly longer in foreface.  Correctly angulated front, with good depth to chest.  Well presented smooth O/W coat over a body needing more substance and depth to brisket with elbows slightly out on straight legs of correct balance. Moderate rear enough stifle angle, moved out well slightly close behind and wide at front.

3)      WILSONS’ DENANDMEG MILL REEF

LIMIT DOG 1 ENTRY

1)      FROSTS’ handling for RUSHS’ PATOUCHE MILORD Lovely breed type to this balanced and well put together young 2 year old.  Very smart outline with his beautifully presented dense flat coat in a rich gloss Tri colour.  Super head shape, well carried triangular ears, great expression from well-shaped eyes, eye could be a little darker.  Excellent clean neck to shoulder and firm backline sloping to a rounded croup.  Good depth to chest and brisket with elbows will in on straight well boned legs and round and compact feet.  Correct muscular quarters moderate turned stifle and short hocks. Impressive sound mover with a true brisk action.

OPEN DOG 8 ENTRIES

1)      YARROWS’ SH.CH. BONAPARTIST GRENADIER this dog certainly takes the attention on the stance and comes alive on the move.  Stunning on the stance with that real squarely built outline of such a lovely size and shape.  Loved his head shape, true use of ears giving that expression to his kind dark eyes, correct strength of foreface.  Lovely moderate clean neck to well laid shoulders, firm backline with a slight slope into his rounded croup and set docked tail. Has a body so well ribbed back with short loin, nice substance with depth to chest and brisket. To be critical I felt today he could be carrying a fraction too much weight.  A beautifully presented dense flat O/W coat with a rich colour and bloom with enough feathering. Broad thighs and quarters, moderate return to stifle and strong hocks, very stylish brisk mover with true sound action works well with his handler.  DCC BOS

2)      WILLIAMS’ BONAPARTIST LIEUTENANT another stunning dog much younger at 2.5 years old but out of the same mould as the winner.  So well developed and put together, who impressed again both on the stance and move with a lot of attitude and with that look at me look.  Masculine head slightly stronger in skull well set and used ears, nice stop very kind dark eyes with that so wanted expression, correct tapering of muzzle.   Neck of good length into well laid-back shoulders into a firm level backline sloping slightly to a rounded croup. Squarely built with rounded ribs well back with short loin, has a lovely body strength, depth and substance with correct angulation front and rear, straight well boned legs and tight round feet. Beautifully presented smooth dense O/W coat with nice feathering.  Today his movement let him down or he might have been one place further forward.  Lovely brisk side stride, good forward action and sound, but his hind action was a little close at foot and hocking out slightly. His overall style will surely give him his crown. RCC

3)      BARLOW-EVANS’ ROCHUS HUXLEY

SPECIAL OPEN
ORANGE/WHITE DOG 2 ENTRIES

1)      HARGREAVES’ BONAPARTIST LANCELOT another very impressive male slightly smaller in stature at 2.5 years old and out of the same cobby mould as my open class winners, and the brother to the second.  So similar in type with a correct outline and overall balance and build with lovely depth and substance and presented in a clean well-marked lovely textured O/W coat with limited feathering.  Very impressive masculine head, good slightly rounded skull, super ear set and use, kind dark eyes, correct length and taper to foreface.  Proud head carriage on strong clean neck of good length, well laid back shoulders and firm sloping back and nice rump and set of tail.  Straight, well boned legs and compact feet, handled well to get the best from him a sound impressive mover with true Brittany action.

2)      STONES’ JAYRICNBRITS HOBO AVEC GLENFESHIE
Although not placed in the Open class I really liked the overall type to this 6 years old but today on the stance he kept dropping his topline.   Impressive masculine head, slightly rounded skull, would prefer better ear set and use, needs time then the expression comes from his kind dark eyes.  Cobby body with depth to chest and substance to his body with ribs well sprung back into shortish loin.  Super clean nicely conditioned O/W coat.  Correctly angulated front and rear with nicely boned legs and tight arched feet, strong rear, once he settled into a stride moved out well with soundness, loved the attention he showed his handler, an obvious love.

SPECIAL OPEN ANY
OTHER COLOUR EXCEPT ORANGE/WHITE DOG

1)      TAYLORS’ SH.CH. CURACAO TANK CALZAGHE AT
SULTAIR an impressive well presented and coated B/W/T at 11.5 years old this veteran must have been a “knock out” in his youth.  Presents a lovely outline and still retains that cobby build.  Excellent head and carriage, ears well set could be used to more advantage, eyes still retaining a dark colour, good dentition and muzzle.  Shortish neck well laid-back shoulders and firm short back to well-shaped rump and docked.  Angulated front with depth to chest, elbows in on straight legs with enough bone little down on his pasterns, feet ok. Good substance with depth to brisket.  Well developed quarters with enough return to stifle and short hocks.  Once he settled into the job was sound both ends with a good brisk side stride.

SPECIAL WORKING DOG
1 ENTRY

1)      ANDRSONS’ ROCHUS MARVIN just over 2 years old this is a smaller built boy and in my opinion was lacking the body substance needed for a working dog.  Nice head shape well worked, correct ear carriage and use, dark well-shaped expressive eyes.  Good neck to shoulders into a firm sloping level short back, body with enough front angle and correct rear quarters with angulation to stifle and hocks.  Body well ribbed back and very well muscled all through.  Well presented coat with some feathering.  Straight fore legs could be stronger in bone, compact feet. Stylish sound free brisk move with reach and drive.

FIELD TRIAL DOG 0
ENTRIES

PUPPY BITCH 3
ENTRIES 1 WITHDRAWN

1)      SOUTHORNS’ ROCHUS NELKE very well grown and stylish 8 months puppy who I see is the full litter sister to the minor puppy bitch winner and certainly out of the same mould. Lovely baby with a pretty head just needing to develop and finish as she grows, well set and used ears, dark well shaped eyes, tapering short fore face.  Clean neck of moderate length well laid- back shoulders, forequarters could be more angled but hopefully will develop with age.  Good depth of chest, brisket and body with ribs well-rounded and back into short loin.  Excellent rump and rear with moderate return of stifle, straight legs with enough bone with tight feet.  Beautiful gloss to her well conditioned and present fine textured B/W/T coat.  Happy positive brisk mover.

2)      BALLS’ NOELLE OF PEACLOUD very pretty baby just 6 months a lacking the maturity of that of 1.   2months makes a difference.  Sweet head correctly developed skull, well set and used ears, dark alert sparkling eyes, correct head balance with good foreface.  Muscular neck of good length has at this moment better shoulder angulation and better quarters than my winner.  Body had enough substance and depth again just needs time and maturity.  Super coat presentation to her O/W jacket.  Nice straight well boned legs and compact feet very unsettled on the move but her new owner/handler should have a lot of fun with this baby hope they keep up the training and showing.

JUNIOR BITCH 4 ENTRIES

1)      COVENEYS’ CHALLOWMOON NAYA just over the year and is very well put together she was slightly taller than longer but still retained that cobby build.  Very pretty head shape, neat well set ears, dark expressive eyes.  Good neck length muscle tone coming, well laid back shoulders, correctly angulated to upper arm and straight well boned legs and compact feet. Slightly sloping firm backline into a well moulded rump.  Good body substance and depth with rounded ribs back into short loin. Beautifully conditioned and finish to her B/W coat.  Straight well boned fore legs tight compact feet, moderate return of stifle.   Free sound mover with good front action and rear brisk drive.

2)      MCEVOYS’ HAWKWISE NICE N EASY smart outline to this 13 months old very attractive head nicely rounded skull, enough stop, well set and used ears, lovely expressive dark eyes, good balance to her foreface.  Good head carriage on nice neck length, good shoulder well laid back, firm backline and well rounded rump. Not the angles or depth to chest of my winner but having a slightly better chest depth than my 3rd.  Deep brisket with elbows held in on straight well balanced and boned legs and compact feet.  Body covered with a short fine well presented O/W coat, well rounded ribs and short loin, muscular hindquarters with moderate return of stifle. tight feet, moved with a brisk action.

3)      DENANDMEG NEW SILHOUETTE

NOVICE BITCH 3
ENTRIES

1)      GUDGINS’ NEUVELLE NARISKA AT JASSENDUE  Impressive on the stance to see this well schooled youngster so responsive to her handler. She is slightly taller and lacks a little in squareness, I would like her a little more compact.  Sweet feminine head, slightly rounded skull, nice stop, shorter tapering foreface.  Well set and used triangular ears, alert dark eyes. Has a very well angled front and rear with a body having depth and substance, well rounded ribs.  Presentation was good with a dense flat B/W coat.  Elbows well in on her straight well boned legs with tight round feet.  Muscular quarters moderate return to stifle, an attractive sound brisk mover who covers the ground well.

2)      DAVIES’ TARWARD LANA I was surprised that this 3 years old was a little timid at being handled, but with care she allowed herself to be gone over and her owner tried very hard to show her to advantage.  Very sweet head of correct balance and shape, expressive eyes, well used triangle shaped ears.  Good neck to shoulder, correctly angulated front and rear, firm topline to moulded croup and set to tail. Lovely body with rounded ribs could be further back as is a little longer in loin.  Very well presented and conditioned O/W jacket with some feathering.   Well muscled broad thighs and moderate return of stifle very unsettled on the move but once handler had her under control moved out well.

3)      Hawk wise Nice n Easy

POST GRADUATE 3
ENTRIES

1)      CUTLERS’ TARWARD LAURA AT JAYRICNBRITS litter sister to my second in Novice and I can now see the similarity but this bitch is more under control and shown to advantage, very stylish on the stance with a lovely square feminine outline.  Pretty correctly shaped head with nicely tapered muzzle, good stop, dark expressive oval eyes, triangular shaped ears so well set and used.  Holds head proudly on moderate clean neck, good shoulders, firm slight slope to her back and croup, and again to her set on docked tail.  Lovely compact body with depth and substance well rounded ribs and short loin.  Beautiful rich O/W fine textured coat.  Muscular broad thighs, moderate stifle and hocks, well boned legs and tight round feet. Free brisk sound mover.

2)      BARLOW-EVANS’ ROCHUS LUNA  I really liked this well coated B/W roan with good dense texture.  Presents a lovely outline on the stance and is so well handled to get the best from her.  Slightly taller than my winner but is squarely built and well put together.  Pretty well constructed head, dark eyes, a better ear use and carriage could be an advantage.  Proud head carriage on moderate neck to well laid sloping shoulders and back line and croup.  Well rounded ribs with short loin.  Deep chest and brisket, straight balanced legs feet little flat and could be tighter.

3)      BOAZ’ JASSENDUE LIANA

LIMIT BITCH 5
ENTRIES 2 ABS

1)       COVENEYS’ TILLYBIRLOCH MISTIQUE very attractive and so well built, correctly balanced and cobby.  This pretty nicely presented O/W with a flat fine textured coat with feathering.  Lovely breed type head so well constructed, lovely kind dark eyes, good stop and well used ears.  Proud head carriage on medium neck, clean and set well into shoulders, and her firm sloping backline to a muscular rump, nice fall to croup onto her tall.  Lovely weight and body substance with depth to chest and brisket and her elbows held well in on straight well balanced and boned legs and tight round feet.  Well angulated front and rear which showed in her positive brisk sound action

2)       TAYLORS’ PATOUCHE JAIS another who presents a lovely outline on the stance and looks very smart so well presented in her clean, densely textured and conditioned B/W coat with enough feathering.  Having a correct shape and balanced feminine head with correct triangular ear set and carriage giving to a lovely expression to her oval dark eyes, muscular medium clean neck to shoulders well angulated, straight firm backline and well moulded croup and correct tail set.  Lovely body, well rounded ribs well back with short loin. 3)   ANDERTONS’ ROCHUS HI PIPPA

OPEN BITCH 5
ENTRIES 1 ABS

1)      TULLYS’ SH.CH. HIGHCLARE FLAMING NORA what a star this 8 year old bitch is, unless told you would never guess her age as she shows no signs of aging and her condition and movement are spot on.  Stunningly feminine, her head is correctly balanced, lovely ear shape carriage and use, nice stop between oval dark expressive eyes, correct clean dentition.  Proud stance and head carriage, very attentive to her handler who she works at one with this presents such a lovely outline of cobbiness with correct balance.  A body so well muscled, in super condition with just the correct amount of weight and presented in a clean well condition and presented dense flat O/W coat.  Ribs rounded and well back into a short loin.  Well angulated at front with depth to chest and brisket, front legs well boned and balanced to round compact feet.  Powerful rear quarters with rounded croup and correct tail set with moderated stifle and short hocks.  Side stride showing a free brisk action, front and rear showing totally sound action.  BCC and BIS today I could not deny her this placing over the truly lovely male.

Medium length to her neck, clean throat, well laid shoulders nicely angulated to her deep chest and brisket.  Firm backline sloping slightly to her rounded croup, lovely broad thighs, well set tail, moderate return of stifle and neat hocks.  Very well presented dense O/W flat coat over a ribbed back body with substance.  Very sound mover with nice brisk action just running a little too close behind.

3)      WILSONS’ SH.CH. HIGHCLARE HELLRAISER AT DENANDMEG

SPECIAL OPEN
ORANGE/WHITE BITCH 6 ENTRIES

1)      YARROW & NUNNS’ SH.CH.  BONAPARTIST IRYSSA very feminine squarely built and cobby presented a lovely outline on the stance.  Beautiful head shape, nice slightly rounded skull, well placed and used ears, super kind dark eyes, nice stop, tapered muzzle.  Moderate length to a muscular neck set into sloping shoulders and backline and croup with slight fall to tail set. Good body depth with rounded ribs well back into a short loin.  She is presented well in a clean nicely presented and conditioned dense flat O/W coat with feathering that finished the picture.  Correctly angulated front and rear with nicely balanced and boned straight legs with tight round feet.  Broad muscular quarters, stifles moderately turned with short hocks.  Stylish very sound brisk mover lovely action coming and going with control.  RCC

2)      ANDERSONS’ ROCHUS JEMIMA Very pretty bitch of a nice size and length a true balanced build.  Excellent head shape, very pretty with nice ears, dark eyes and stop.  Correct medium length to neck, sloping shoulders into firm backline and croup, with nice tail set on correctly.  Super body with ribs well back with a short loin, broad thighs.  Very attractive flat lightly patch marked O/W coat, just a little out of coat today.  Nicely angled front and rear, well boned and balanced straight legs and tight feet.  Nice strong rear end moved well just insisted pulling out which spoilt her action.

3)      Jassendue Liana

SPECIAL OPEN ANY
OTHER COLOUR EXCEPT ORANGE/WHITE BITCH 1 ENTRY

1)      AXTELLS’ PATOUCHE LYRA FOR CALLMILLARD. Lovely to see this well marked and coated L/W and tan,  I remember the beautiful L/W male that Dolly Leach had years ago so nice to see this colour being shown.  Nicely balanced outline to this smart breed type cobby built 3 year- old.  Correct head shape, kind look to her dark oval eyes, well used ears, nice stop and tapered muzzle.  Firm backline just too much fall away to her croup with tail little too low set on.  Very well bodied would like little more depth to her chest and brisket, rounded ribs well back into short loin.  Has enough angles front and rear would like more bone to straight balanced fore legs and feet could be tighter.  Little unsettled on the move but had a good sound action once into a stride.

VETERAN BITCH 3
ENTRIES 1 ABS

1)       GUDGINS’ SH.CH. COXELLOT CHICITA AT JASSENDUE
very pleased to have this 11.5 year- old squarely built girl to go over.  Her head still retains the shape and balance just loosing some colour, triangular shape to ears well set on and carried correctly, her oval eyes are dark but little cloudy. Well angled front with good depth to chest, moderate neck length still retains firm topline with slight slope to croup and docked tail well set on.  Well presented O/W roan with feathering over a well ribbed back body with depth and substance.  Well boned legs and compact feet still could show the youngsters how to move, covered the ground well with a nice brisk action, fraction close behind at foot, but sound a front.  Best Veteran B Best Veteran in Show.

2)       AXTELLS’ PATOUCHE EVONNY WITH CALLMILLARD slightly taller than my winner but squarely balanced and had a lovely outline. Very attractive bitch presented in a dense B/W/Tan coat, flat with a nice texture with nice feathering, at 8.5 years old she is still retaining her dark colour.  Very attractive head, slightly rounded skull.  Well set and used ears with moderate stop, dark kind eyes, tapering muzzle. Excellent angled front with enough depth to chest, good deep brisket and a body with well rounded ribs back into a short loin, croup was little too steep with low tail set.  Strong hindquarters moved little wide behind and close at front with a short side stride.

SPECIAL
WORKING BITCH 3 ENTRIES

1)      DAVIES’ ROCHUS LOTTIE Lovely outline slightly taller than my second placed just preferred her size, overall balance and her outline, she has very good front and rear angulation.  Very feminine head, correct shape and built with correct ear set, and dark kind eyes. Lovely head carriage on good moderate neck length into a firm backline with slightly sloping croup and nice tail set. Well bodied and ribbed, presented in very attractive O/W dense coat with feathering. Straight well boned legs and round compact feet, moved with brisk action but running very close behind.

2)      Jassendue Liana I really liked this slightly smaller breed type bitch in a previous class and felt for type on her stance she was my class winner, but she is undocked and this tail gives her a strange rear action, and the tail does in fact spoil he croup and her outline on the move.  Very attractive feminine head, with a pretty expression from dark eyes and well used ears.   Clean neck and well set and laid shoulders, sloping top line to rump.  Nicely ribbed body with substance and depth.  Beautifully presented and attractive O/W flat coat with feathering.  Well boned forelegs, nice angulated rear quarters, tight round feet. As stated rear action was spoilt but tail and tail carriage, this tail should not spoil her movement and outline but it does.

Memorial Special Classes

Firstly, thanks to the Officers and committee for the kind invitation to judge these classes and secondly, thanks to the exhibitors for the opportunity to go over so many lovely exhibits. I was delighted with the wonderful entry and sportsmanship on show here today.

All dogs were well presented, shown in good condition and especially impressed with their muscle tone and dentition.

Wright Special Yearling Dog /Bitch (6)

1st – Mooneys – Challowmoon Noah, 13 month o/w dog of very good quality and type, lovely head, eyes and ears which were nicely set and carried, good length of neck fitting well into well placed shoulders, good topline which was held on the move, well put together at rear, correct front with good bone and neat tight feet, deep in chest with ribbing of good shape and length, muscular in loin, slightly loose in front today, shown in well presented coat and super condition, expertly handled.

2nd – Coveneys – Challowmoon Naya, different type than her littermate, but still a good quality in another frame, very pleasing in head and eye, firm topline, moderate rear end, well boned with good feet, body maturing as it should, very well presented, carefully handled, just pipped on the move.

3rd – Pooles – Sanbosier Naos At Laurremar

Hawkwise Bairn Special Beginners Dog/Bitch (8)

1st – Samardzija – Patouche Lambert, 3 year old male solidly built, pleasing in head and eye, ears well placed, good length of neck, sloping shoulder, firm topline, moderate rear angulation, good bone and tight feet, deep in brisket, good spring of rib and short muscular loin, shown in excellent muscular condition moved out really well, shown in good coat, well handled. Certainly fit for function.

2nd – Coveneys – Tillybirloch Mistique, really appealing 2 year old o/w bitch, lovely in type and balance, nicely proportioned in head with soft expressive eyes, ears well set, neck fits well into sloping shoulders, firm topline, broad thighs and moderate bend of stifle, very good bone and tight feet, ribs well sprung, short coupled and muscular loin, shown in well presented coat and very good condition, thought she would be my winner but on the final move round she did not match up to the dog.

3rd – Finchs – Jassendue Manet’s Medley Am Cetgueli

Malbec Special Open Dog Or Bitch (10)

This was a very good class.

1st – Barlow-Evans – Rochus Huxley, 5 year old male, he has a very commanding outline, head and carriage are lovely, dark eye, ears of good length and placement, strong neck of good length, sloping shoulders, firm topline held on the move, strongly built in rear, very good bone and tight feet, deep in brisket, chest of good shape and length, short muscular loin, beautifully presented and handled, shown in hard condition, won this class on his more positive action on the move. Another that it can be said is very much fit for function.

2nd – Hargreaves – Bonapartist Lancelot, 2 year old o/w male, very balanced throughout, lovely for type, head well proportioned, gentle expression, correct ear set, moderate length of neck and well placed shoulders, slightly soft in topline, good rear end, good bone and feet, deep in chest very good ribbing and short coupled, well presented and handled not so free flowing on the move.

3rd – Wrights – Hawkwise Land Agent, really liked this one for type and size on entering the ring, well made but acting up on the move which was unfortunate.

Judge – Eddie Webster

Memorial classes

Ad Astra SY

1. Walby`s Hawkwise Nolan Brook – 8 month orange/white dog. Very good bone and substance for age with well -developed body. Alert expression, good head type with well-shaped dark eyes. 2. Wright`s Hawkwise Nugget – similar remarks as to 1 who is litter brother. Preferred head of 1 but both moved well for youngsters. 3. Mooney`s Challowmoon Noah – 9 month orange/white dog with good body, tight feet, stood full square but not so positive on the move.

Sandy Massie SO

1. Anderson` Rochus Lucie – 2yr old black/tan in excellent condition. Loved her overall balance, correct head proportions, ears of good length and shape. Strong neck with good shoulder placement and one of the best movers. 2. Stevens Pixbrook Joyrider at Sanbosier – Lots to like about this 2 year old orange/white bitch. Longer cast but well made with good body, lots of heart room, lovely head with appealing Brittany expression. Happy on the move. 3. Wright`s Hawkwise Land Agent – it was a case of splitting hairs between these first 3. Good overall balance, lovely head of correct proportions. Strong in body with well-muscled hind quarters.

Peter Green O

Movement overall in this class was not brilliant. 1. Southorn Rochus Juliet – orange/white 3 yr old bitch who stood full square matching the standard. Very attractive head with dark eye and high set ears. Good bone and substance, required length of neck with correct shoulders. Held a good topline on the move. 2. Steven`s Pixbrook Joyrider at Sanbosier.

3.Molton`s Patouche Acropole – this 13 year old dog is a credit to his owner. Shown in excellent condition with the sweetest of expressions and moved as one with handler.

Fee Mitchell

25th February 2018
My sincere thanks to the Officers and Committee for extending me this wonderful invitation. I considered it a great honour and privilege to have the opportunity and was thrilled with the size of the entry and depth of quality of those dogs coming.  Thanks to Kathy Gorman for stewarding and thanks to all exhibitors for your support.  There was a lovely atmosphere ringside and I thoroughly enjoyed my day with this lovely breed.
PD (4, 1)
1st Mooney’s Challowmoon Noah.  Beautifully balanced puppy with square outline.  His head shape is correct viewed from the front and side with strong muzzle and high earset. Clean neck leading to good lay of shoulder.  Well rounded ribcage and short loin.  Well shaped hindquarters with no exaggeration.  Excellent bone and feet.  Moved on a brisk short stride.  BPIS.
2nd    Poole’s Sanbosier Naos at Laurremar.  Not as forward as my winner and slightly longer cast.  Pleasing head and expression with good earset.  Correct depth of chest with elbows close
to the brisket.  Ribcage correct for age.  Well-made hindquarters.  Moved briskly – at one with his handler.
3rd Walby’s Hawkwise Nolan Brook
JD/ND – no entries
PGD (3)
1st Samardzija’s Patouche
Lambert.  Well balanced.  Up to size but within the standard. Balanced head of correct proportions. Dark eye and high earset.  Clean neck leading to muscular shoulders and well-rounded ribcage.  Deep chest with elbows tight to the brisket.  I would like him a fraction shorter in loin.  Well-muscled hindquarters.  Correct brisk movement which won him the class.
2nd    Finch’s Jassendue Manet’s Medley.  Well balanced with square outline when viewed from the side.  Typical head and kind expression.  Well placed shoulders.  Although I preferred
his rib/loin proportions to that of the winner I would like a little more rounding of the ribcage.  I would also like a little more moderation in is stifle as he kicked back slightly on the move.
3rd Wilson’s Denandmeg Mill Reef.
LD (no entries)
OD (4)
1st Coveney’s Tillybirloch Jem.  I thought this dog was cracking.  On the stack he presents a true breed outline – square and cobby with no exaggeration.  His head is correctly proportioned with a soft expression, strong muzzle and correctly set ears.  His neck is clean and leads in to muscular shoulders.  Deep chest with elbows tight to the brisket.  Very good length of foreleg with good bone and feet.  Well rounded ribcage and short loin.  He has at the correct slope of croup with well-muscled powerful thighs.  Lovely brisk movement maintaining his outline throughout. BD & BIS.
2nd Barlow-Evans’ – Rochus Huxley.  Another quality dog.  Just slightly longer cast than mywinner.  Good head shape with kind expression and correct earset.  Strong neck with well placed shoulders and deep chest.  Well rounded ribcage.  His loin could be just a fractionshorter. Well made hindquarters.  Good bone and feet.  Brisk sound movement.  RBD
3rd Anderson’s Rochus Moet
VD (5 ,2)
1st Anderson’s Sh Ch Rocus Folio.  Well balanced all through  presenting square outline when stacked.  Correct head proportions with dark eye and soft expression.  Correctly placed shoulder
with well-rounded ribcage and short loin.  Correct hindquarters with no exaggeration. Excellent bone and feet.  Moved on a brisk stride.  BVIS
2nd    Molton’s Patouche   Acropole.    At nearly 13 years of age this dog is a great credit to his owners and the breed.  He is well balanced with a head of correct proportions, dark eye and correct
earset.  Well rounded ribcage with elbows tight to the brisket.  Slightly dipping in his topline now but at his age this can be expected.  I would like a little less angulation in his hindquarters.  Moved very soundly on a brisk stride.
3rd Hawkins’ – Eastonite Dearg Doom
WD (1)
1st xtell’s Patouche Cardinal For Callmillard.lthough he stood alone he was very worthy of his placed and pushed hard for top honours.  Square, cobby outline.  Well balanced head with dark eye and strong muzzle.  Clean neck leading to very muscular shoulders and deep chest with elbows close to the brisket.  Excelled in his ribcage with short loin and powerful hindquarters.  Correct bone with excellent feet.  In the challenge he didn’t move as well as he did in the class but he pushed all the way.
PB (5, 1)
1st McEvoy’s Hawkwise Nice N Easy.  Balanced, square outline.  Correct head shape with soft expression and high set ears.  Clean neck leading to correct slope of shoulder.  Her depth of chest is correct for her age as is her spring of rib. Short loin.  Well shaped hindquarters. Moved on a brisk stride.  RBPIS
2nd    Wright’s Hawkwise Nugget.  Little sister to the winner and a little more forward in development however she refused to settle properly in movement which ultimately cost her the class.  Excellent square outline with correct head shape and kind expression.  More developed in ribcage than her sister at the moment.  Excellent bone and feet.  I am sure once she settles down she will do very well.
3rd Rush – Neska De Skol Louarn at Patouche
JB (2)
1st Gudgin’s Nouvelle Nariska at Jassendue.  Up to size but within the standard and well balanced.  Pleasing head and expression. Well-muscled shoulder with excellent depth of chest and elbows close to the brisket.  Well rounded ribcage with short loin.  Correct hindquarters, well off for bone and good feet.  Moved briskly and soundly.
2nd Skeet’s Sambosier Naia.lthough very immature she has a square outline.  Pleasing head  and expression.  I would like to see her more cobby in her body.  Well-made hindquarters. Moved steadily.
NB – no entries.
PGB (4)
1st Coveney’s Tillybirloch  Mistique.  I liked this bitch a great deal.  She has a super, square and cobby outline.  Typical head shape of correct proportions with strong muzzle and high set ears.  Correctly placed shoulders with deep chest and elbows close to brisket.  Her ribcage is well rounded and loin is short.  Well-made hindquarters with no exaggeration. Moved well on a brisk stride.  Just lost out on maturity in the challenge but she has it all there for the future.
2nd Boaz’ Jassendue Liana.  Well balanced with correct square outline.  Correctly proportioned head with strong jaw. Deep chest with good elbow placement.  Well rounded ribcage and short
loin.  Just tended to carry her tail a little high on the move.
3rd Barlow-Evans’ Rochus Luna
LB (4)
1st Yarrow’s Bonapartist Linnet. Although slightly longer cast than my second placed bitch, she had other qualities that won her the class.  Superb head shape of the correct proportions with a melting expression, strong jaw, correct width of skull and high ear set. Clean neck and well-muscled shoulder.  Deep chest with elbows tight to the brisket.  Well rounded ribcage.  Correct sloped of croup leading to unexaggerated hindquarters.  Excellent bone and feet.  Moved on a brisk stride.  RBB
2nd Stevens’ Pixbrook Joyrider at Sanbosier. Another quality bitch who presented the correct square outline when viewed in profile.  Head of the correct proportions. Clean neck leading to correctly placed shoulder.  Not quite the depth of chest and tightness of elbow as the winner, however she has a well-rounded ribcage and short loin.  Well-muscled hindquarters with correct bone and feet.  Moved with a brisk stride.  Close decision between the two.
3rd Davies’ Rochus Lottie
OB (3)
1st Anderson’s Sh Ch Rochus Jayricnbrits Hattie.  Well balanced with excellent outline that is both square and cobby.  Her head is of the correct proportions with good width of skull, medium
stop and strong muzzle.  High set ears.  Clean neck leading through to the desired layback of shoulder.  Her chest is deep and her elbows are close to the brisket.  Good length of foreleg.  Well rounded ribcage leading to short loin and strong, unexaggerated hindquarters.  Excellent bone and feet.  Moved briskly with the desired hind action.  BB and RBIS
2nd    Wilson’s Sh Ch Highclare Hellraiser   At Denandmeg.     size larger than my winner but till square, cobby and within the standard.  Well shaped head with strong muzzle and high earset.  Deep chest and well-rounded ribcage.  Strong in hindquarters with no exaggeration. Excellent bone and feet.  Moved briskly – not quite holding her topline as well as the winner today.
3rd Southorn’s Rochus Juliet
VB (1)
1st Southorn’s Rochus Vefa. At nearly 13 years old this bitch is still so sound.  Square and cobby in outline she excels in head and has a melting expression.  Deep chest with well- rounded
ribcage.  Well-made hindquarters with no exaggeration.  Correct amount of bone. Moved briskly and soundly.
WB (3)
1st Pixbrook Joyrider at Sanbosier (2nd in Limit)
2nd Anderson’s Rochus Lucie.  Square outline little finer all through than my winner. Correct head shape with good eye colour and high set ears.  Well placed shoulders and rounded ribcage with
short loin, correct slope of croup and well-muscled hindquarters. Positive brisk movement.

Critique by Judge Gloria Horrocks

I was delighted to be asked to judge three special classes at the Brittany Club’s Open Show and would like to thank the Committee and Exhibitors for their warm welcome and for entrusting me with their lovely, lively breed. I have long admired these charming small gundogs and was not disappointed on close acquaintance.

Ch. Brittyhill Sorrel Memorial Special: Special Yearling dog or bitch. (5)
1. Coveney’s Tillybirloch Mistique: Typy youngster. Lovely head with moderate stop and good eye shape, eye colour in accordance with coat colour. Well-muscled with good bone whilst retaining feminity. Frisky when moving but I saw enough to give her the class.. 2. Finch’s Jassendue Manet’s Medley. Orange roan dog. Kind, enquiring expression, nice head with well-placed ears. Good depth to brisket. Well boned legs and very good feet. 3. Anderson’s Rochus Moet.

Sandy Massie Memorial Special Open BCGB Tan dog or Bitch (7:1 abs)
Very difficult decision in separating these two lovely boys.
1. Wright’s Hawkwise Land Agent, eventually had the edge, smaller than 2 but still masculine. Nicely balanced cobby body with strong topline kept on the move. In good coat and condition with some light feathering and the best of feet. Movement on both these boys was a pleasure to watch both moving briskly and carrying their heads proudly 2. Anderson’s Rochus Huxley, substantial dog, a little taller than 1 but in proportion. Nice head properties; well sprung ribcage and good depth of brisket. 3. Davies’ Rochus Lottie

Peter Green Memorial: Special Open dog or bitch (8:3 abs)
1. Tully’s Sh.Ch Highclare Flaming Nora. Classy b. Best of heads with sweet, intelligent expression. Lovely, well balanced cobby body, good topline and depth to well-rounded rib cage. In good, nicely marked coat, moved well. Altogether a very worthy winner. 2. Coveney’s Tillybirloch Jem. Lovely dog and I see from the catalogue that he has the same father as my yearling winner, dad obviously passing on type. Good forehand, nice shoulder placement, good bone and conformation. 3.Barlow-Evans’ Rochus Luna.

I would just like to thank the Officers and Committee for asking me to judge at their well-run Open  Show, I was honoured and delighted. Also a big thanks to the exhibitors for bringing their quality  dogs, I was spoilt for choice.

There was a lovely atmosphere around the ring and the weather was kind to us so it was great to be able to hold the show outside.

Minor Puppy Dog or Bitch
1st Gudgin’s Neuvelle Nariska at Jassendue.
What a quality young bitch, just loved her, with  everything just right for her age. Feminine Head with correct 3 to 2 proportions, a lovely dark eye  giving a soft expression. Short neck, well laid shoulders, lovely bone and substance for age with a  well-developed body. Good width of thigh and so sound on the move for her age. BPIS

Novice Dog
1st Samardzija’s Patouche Lambert
Balanced throughout, pleasing head with a typical outlook,  strong neck and good depth and substance. Short back and lovely width of thigh. Moved well.

Post Graduate Dog
1st Wright’s Hawkwise Land Agent.
Nicely put together with a good masculine head. Correct ear  set and kind eye and expression. Short neck, well laid shoulders and good depth of chest. Wellrounded quarters. Moved with ease.
2nd Wilson’s Denandmeg Mill Reef.
Pleasing type but not as mature as the winner. Well-made front assembly with plenty of heart room. Short back and well-rounded quarters. Sound but not as positive on the move as the winner.

Quality dog from every angle. Super balanced head with the correct 3  to 2 ratio. Lovely eye shape and ear set, short neck, excellent lay of shoulders that are set wide at  the point of shoulder. Short cobby body and a lovely spring of rib. Moderate bend of stifle with a  good width of thigh. Lovely steady mover and should worry the best when fully matured. RES BD.

Just what I was looking for, loved his overall balance and  breed type. Masculine throughout but not coarse in any way. Best of heads with correct proportions  and well set ears. Lovely size, cobby appearance and he is so clean over the neck and shoulders with correct width at point of shoulder. Excellent front assembly, best of feet, lovely depth, Correct top line and tail set. Moderate bend of stifle with well-rounded quarters. Moved with such reach and drive and I was delighted to award him BD & BIS.

Such a beautiful type of bitch and she is so feminine throughout. Head planes are correct as is the ratio. Lovely eye shape with a soft expression and  correct ear set. The Brittany Club of Great Britain

Championship Show

Saturday 8th July 2017

I feel very honoured to have been invited to judge this weekend. In my opinion, the pinnacle of any judge’s career is to judge their own breed’s Championship Show. My thanks to our hard working committee, and also to my very efficient and well organised stewards, Kathy Gorman and Jenna Cocking.

I found a few light eyes, and some heavier heads than I’d like, which took away the elegance of the breed. They should be workmanlike but not heavy. All dentition was correct bar one level bite, and we must keep an eye on leg length, a few were rather short legged despite being very well proportioned otherwise. It was lovely to see a variety of colours as well as the usual orange and white. A few dogs flagged a little due to the very warm weather.

Most dogs had been well schooled, with only one or two exuberant youngsters having to be managed. I didn’t mind, it shows the character of the breed. It was very hot so I tried not to run the dogs too much, trying to time it with clouds and an occasional light breeze.

I was disappointed there were no puppies, especially since Bill Muir had offered prize money for the top awards in memory of my good friend, Liz – his dear, late wife.

My top winners are excellent examples of our great breed, with most of the correct attributes. I was very pleased with my final line up. I was also delighted to see that the judge for our three memorial classes, Ray McDonald, agreed with many of my placings

All four veteran bitches and the two veteran dogs were excellent for their ages. Each one different in their own way. And it was obvious each one is loved as much by their respective owners. All of them have lovely temperaments, neither was there a cross word elsewhere all day. Between them our veterans totalled a staggering 65 years!!!

I only had one absentee, a bitch on maternal duties I was told, and I was delighted with an excellent entry compared to those of other championship shows this year.

My placings and comments are as follows:

DOGS

Junior Dog (5,0)

1st Rush’s Patouche Milord Nicely proportioned black tri, correctly marked with a very dark head; his eyes were a little light for a predominantly black dog; short coupled, with well-placed shoulders and correct angulation front and rear. Legs long enough, with a straight front. Good depth of chest and ribcage well rounded, just needs to body up, and although his coat was very clean and shiny, his feathering was sparse – but plenty time to mature. Stood on neat correctly shaped feet, and moved with style. Should have a bright future

2nd Wilson’s Denandmeg Mill Reef. He has the correct rounded skull, with medium stop and tight lips, and a kind, dark eye. He is short in ribcage as well as short coupled, giving him an overall short cobby look. He will hopefully drop in chest, looking a little long in the leg at the moment, but his ribcage is nicely rounded, and a little more spring of rib will finish the

picture. Coat in good condition and very well-muscled. Moved with the correct gait but crabbed a little. Another bright prospect

3rd Anderson’s Rochus Moet, Slightly longer coupled than the first two in the class, but well-presented and schooled. His head is correctly proportioned, and well-shaped, with lovely expressive eyes of a good oval shape and correctly angled. Good deep chest, rounded ribcage, and correct length of leg. A little loose in rear movement at times, but front movement was excellent, and he kept his topline on the move. A lot to like about this boy too.

Novice Dog (1, 0)

1st Radcliffe’s Leader de Tremouard. Standing alone, an unusually marked dog, black and white, with a tan mask. Not correctly marked for a tricolour, according to our standard, but not an obvious sable. I’ve seen markings like this on dogs shown in France and wonder what their opinion is. Our own standard is precise on tricolour markings, and where the tan points are. With the recent KC initiative on colours perhaps we need to re-evaluate what we are comfortable with in the show ring. Obviously from a working or health point of view colour is immaterial unless the gene is allied to another. His movement was difficult to assess as he had little ring training, but on the occasions he settled he moved quite well, with a short gait, although occasionally over reached. He was short coupled and well enough ribbed, with correct shoulder layback and angulation. His interest was not always on his handler, but he’s an alert, happy little dog. Typical nosey Brittany!

Post graduate dog (3,0)

1st Hargreaves’ Bonapartist Lancelot. Well-schooled, square cobby youngster, head a little stronger than I like, but correct eye shape, medium stop, tight enough lips, and correct dentition. Moved well and in tune with his handler’s other half, keeping his correct topline, with the slight slope from withers to croup. Chest not quite down to the elbow, hidden by plenty feathering, but that can still come. Smaller than I’d like but in the size range, and at 18 months unlikely to grow taller.

2nd Wright’s Hawkwise Land Agent. 20 month old youngster, looked well in outline, but on examination needs a deeper chest, and stifle not quite bent enough. Muzzle to skull ratio not quite correct, muzzle slightly too long. Ribcage well sprung and an excellent coat. Very well-muscled. Moved out well, but twisting his hocks a little.

3rd Leader du Tremouard as Novice

Limit Dog (2.0)

1st Coveney’s Tillybirloch Jem. What a stunner! Took my eye as he strode into the ring. Correct in almost every department, and so in tune with his handler. This lad had the ‘look at me’ attitude. Powered round with the correct Brittany short brisk stride, keeping his beautiful topline, and every step landing where it should. Watched his owner at every opportunity. Well-kept coat and furnishings. Correct length of leg, very slightly more than his chest depth, which was nice and deep, enough forechest, ribcage rounded, first and last ribs almost the same length, and short coupled, creating the typical underline required. Angulation correct at the rear, with a nicely rounded ‘bum’. Correct small tight feet at front, slightly longer ‘hare like’ rear feet, correct set on of tail, which I would guess is a natural bob. Dog CC and BIS

2nd Williams’ Bonapartist Lieutenant. A medium sized cobby dog, with forechest and plenty heart and lung room, in width but a little lacking in depth of chest. Excellent rounded rib cage, short in loin, and a slight slope to his topline as required. Correct head proportions but a little overdone in stop.

Open Dog (3,0)

1st Poole’s Sh Ch Bonapartist Gourrege. A nice square, cobby dog of medium size, with short loin and adequate bone leading to tidy feet, correctly shaped front and back. Shoulders wide enough apart at withers, and good layback, giving the correct front angles, with more moderation in the rear. He thus moved correctly and with the Brittany elegance, although he over reached a little in the challenge. Deep, well ribbed chest, and rounded quarters. Quite a strong masculine head, correctly proportioned. Excellent topline, well muscled and certainly well schooled. Thick coat. Dog RCC

2nd Yarrow’s Sh Ch Bonapartist Grenadier. Litter brother to 1, slightly longer in loin, and broader head than I would want, but of similar quality in body, with layback, angulations and bone all in order. Nice straight front with forechest like his brother. I note both are show champions. Also well muscled and well schooled.

3rd Rochus Huxley Upstanding dog, taller and rangier than the other two, rather upright in shoulder but with enough stifle and really firm musculature. Lacking in spring of rib, but deep chested. His movement was rather erratic, but he had a beautiful glossy coat.

Special open AOC Dog (1,0)

1st Leader de Tremouard as Novice

Veteran Dog (2.0)

1st Potter & Cook’s Sh Ch Tailliside Winter Berry What a super, typy, cobby 12 and a half year old boy. Very attentive to his handler, with bright, intelligent, and gentle eyes, and an excellent mover. I found his muzzle a little on the long side, but his head and muzzle lines are parallel, and his teeth are in great condition. His angulation front and rear were correct giving him the typical Brittany gait, with a deep chest and rounded rib cage, A topline held on the move, as he powered round the ring

2nd Molton’s Patouche Acropole. Obviously adores his owner from the way his dark expressive and attentive eyes never left him. Short ears, high set, and correct parallel planes. Strong muscled neck, round ribs, and deep brisket, making him look quite chunky, but with a little dip over the loin. Well off for bone too. A dark dog and with age his coat has gone soft. Nice short ears, prized in France

No working or Field Trial entries was disappointing

BITCHES

Junior Bitch (1,0)

1st Coveney’s Tillybirloch Mistique Very pretty lass, sweet head, just out of puppy, excellent rib cage, and a deep chest for her age. Correct shoulder placement. Just enough bone, which may improve, and nice neat feet. Ratio of lower leg to chest depth correct. A little high on the back end but hopefully with maturity she will drop into her stifle. Slightly long in loin, but may look better when she fills out; well-muscled throughout. Lacking in furnishings, but that will come. Overall in nice condition.

Novice Bitch (1,0)

1st Davies’ Tarward Lana pretty young bitch, very well handled by her young handler who I was delighted to see won the Junior Handler trophy. She is lighter built and a little long in loin. Chest just deep enough, and could do with a little more spring of rib. Very high set ears. Head proportions not exact, muzzle being slightly too long. But very expressive and attentive eyes. In good condition, well-kept coat. She is obviously very fond of her handler.

Post Graduate Bitch (5, 0)

1st Ryan’s Patouche Jaimee. Quite long legs, but with correct shaped feet, neat and tidy. High set mobile ears, showing her keenness. A little high at the back end, could do with a little more bend in stifle, which would lower her rear end. Correct head proportions, and chest down to elbow, a little more spring of rib would improve the look. Moved well enough but lost strength in her topline as she moved..

2nd Boaz’ Jassendue Liana One of the few long tails, a pretty bitch in lighter toned orange and white. Consequently her eyes and pigmentation were lighter to harmonise. Deep chested and enough ribcage, but with a slight rise over the loin. Over reaching on the move and topline loose.

3rd Yarrow’s Bonapartist Linnet. A very sweet bitch, viewed correct in many respects – muzzle and skull in proportion, tight flews, nicely shaped oval eyes, dark enough for her colour. Correct underline and topline, chest deep, ribcage rounded, a tad long in coupling, but overall really nice – such a pity she was nervous and made it difficult to assess her properly, so I couldn’t place her higher. A little more confidence and she will do well.

Limit Bitch (3,0)

1st Southorn’s Rochus Juliet Nice square bitch with round ribs, well set shoulders, deep enough chest. Long enough legs, and just enough bone. Moved well apart from over reaching on the way out. Correct oval eye with good colour, high set short ears and head in proportion

2nd Williams’ Tournesol Impossible Dream, a very deep chested typical o/w bitch from this kennel. Hard to beat her conformation, with a good cobby shape, but she was a little bum high, and a little chunky looking. Short on furnishings today. She moved typically, and is very well boned with tight feet,

3rd Tarward Lana as Novice

Open Bitch(6,1)

An excellent class, both 2 and 3 unlucky to meet my first place winner today. Places could change another time.

1st Tully’s Sh Ch Highclare Flaming Nora. One of our top winning bitches in the breed, I have always liked her and have given her a Reserve CC previously. I have watched her career after starting her dam off with Best puppy at Crufts in 2007, and a subsequent CC in 2013 at SKC. She didn’t disappoint until the challenge for Best in Show when she just flagged a little, probably the heat. She is lively and energetic, very attentive to her handler, square cobby girl, short coupled, with correct leg length, depth of chest, correct ratio and shape of head She trotted briskly round in a ‘rounded triangle’ on neat feet with plenty

spring in the pasterns, keeping her lovely, slightly sloping topline. Beautifully handled and presented in good coat and excellent muscular condition. Bitch CC and Reserve Best in Show

2nd Anderson’s Rochus Jayricbrits Hattie This bitch is very typical. Workmanlike but feminine, and correct in size and overall proportion, both in head and body. Very well balanced, with a twinkle in her lovely shaped oval eyes. In good muscular condition, with nice rounded haunches. She moved typically, with a strong topline, on correctly made and tidy legs and feet.

3rd Yarrow & Nunn’s Sh Ch Bonapartist Iryssa. I have given this bitch a CC in the past, but I was disappointed today. She seemed a little lack lustre, and moving wide in front. She seemed to sag in the middle when she wasn’t watching her handler. Despite that, she is well made, with a good round ribcage, and deep down to the brisket. She has good bone, with neat feet, and ears the correct length. Her bone is good, and she has darker pigmentation to match her dark orange coat. Perhaps the heat affected her.

Special Orange and White Open bitch (4,0)

1st Yarrow’s Loubie Rose of Bonapartist. Very square little bitch, with neat ears, and a correctly proportioned head. Very expressive eyes, attentive to her handler. She was in excellent coat, with firm muscles. Nice length of leg, and deep enough in the brisket. Short loined, and kept her topline on the move. Good bone leading to neat well trimmed feet. A nice straight front with a little forechest. Stifle not quite enough bend but she moved correctly if overreaching very slightly. Might have been the pace.

2nd Davies’ Rochus Lottie Slightly taller bitch. Again neat ears and feet. Very expressive eyes, with the typical Brittany intelligent look about her – my notes say ‘nosey’. Short coupled and angulation correct, with enough spring of rib. Depth of chest is good but she is still a little narrow in front. As she matures this should improve. Moved typically with that special gait we love.

3rd Cutler’s Tarward Laura of Jayricnbrits. Smaller bitch than the other two, but lots to like. Tried hard to please her young handler, who handled her very well. She has high ear set, giving her a very inquisitive, intelligent look, watching her handler so much that she almost tripped her up. Cobby bitch with correct angles all round, just out of coat today, although what there was had a good shine.

Special Open AOC Bitch (1,0)

1st Patouche Lyra for Callmillard well muscled liver tri, a rare colour until recently. Well shaped ears, although a tad longish. Short of coat today. Her eyes are lighter due to her colour. She has a good ribcage, and chest just deep enough. I’d have liked a little more bone on her. She looked correct when standing but was a little wide in front on the move, and she could stand little more bend of stifle.

Veteran Bitch (4,0)

1st Axtell’s Patouche Evonny With Callmillard Judged this girl at SKC a few years ago and awarded her the Reserve CC She has a good straight front, good length of neck set in well to her shoulders. Well sprung ribs and nicely covered. Her chest has dropped somewhat since I last judged her as a 3 year old and she has retained her cheeky and alert expression Best Veteran in Show

2nd Ir Sh Ch Fosscott Ailette Litter sister to my own male Show Champion, she is a lighter shade of orange and white with pigmentation in harmony. She is well boned, cobby, deep chested, short loined, well-muscled – but still feminine and elegant. She showed very well, and moved well for her owner. Definitely in tune with each other.

3rd Rochus Vefa Thirteen year old lady, showing her age a little in the heat of the day, but she put a lot of effort into moving correctly round the ring, full of attention for her handlers.

She has a very thick heavy dark orange coat, which belied her correct body shape underneath; and is greying on her correctly shaped muzzle.

Brittany Club of GB.– 08/07/2017

What an honour to be asked to judge the memorial classes at the BCGB Championship Show. I was thrilled with my entry of 20 dogs making 21 entries.

A lovely day and a really enjoyable weekend due to the welcome from the committee, members and exhibitors alike. It was lovely to see so many people stay for the dinner on the Saturday evening and supporting the club at the events on the Sunday.

Wright Special Yearling (5,0)

1st Hargreaves’ Bonapartist Lancelot. Super boy of lovely shape and size. Cobby in body with a masculine head of correct proportions with correct eyes and ears. Well placed shoulders over deep well sprung ribs, good forechest. Level topline, short loin and correct moderate rear angles. Nice mover, true with correct reach and drive.

2nd Yarrow’s Bonapartist Linnet Super B just pipped by her brother. A feminine version of my winner she contrived to throw it away but redeemed herself in the line and could not be denied. Correct all through for shape and size. Head feminine of good shape, correct eyes and ears. Lovely ribbing of correct depth and spring. Short coupled to correct rear angles. Another correct mover.

3rd Coveney’s Tillybirloch Mistique 13mth feminine young lady that still has some maturing to do as one would expect. Liked her head shape, prefer a little more width across muzzle. Good body shape with correct spring and depth of rib for age. Good rear angles, level topline and moves well.

Res Finch’s Jassendue Manet’s Medley VHC Radcliffe’s Leader De Tremouard Hawk wise Barn Special Beginners Open (7,0)

1st Southorn’s Rochus Juliet. Liked this B for her head and body shape and size. Perhaps a touch long in leg but with a well made front assembly, short loin and level topline. Not the spring of rib of some but good depth. Nice rear and moved well.

2nd Cutler’s Tarward Laura at Jayricnbrits. A small B with a lovely feminine head. A little longer in body than my winner with good depth of chest and spring of rib. Well made fore and aft. Moved well with moderate reach and drive.

3rd Wright’s Hawkwise Land Agent A nice boy, quite strong in head but a good shape with good eyes and ears. Well made with good Spring of rib, level topline and short coupling. Not as clean behind as 1 & 2.

Res Boaz’s Jassendue Liana VHC Davies’ Rochus Lottie

Talliside Britt Open

1st Poole’s Sh Ch Bonapartist Gourrege . Wow, what a super boy this is. 5yrs, mature and excels in type, just what I was looking for. Super head with correct shape, nice eyes and well set ears. Lovely front with well laid shoulders over well sprung ribs of correct depth. Nice forechest that is lacking in many. Short deep loin, correctly angled read and level topline complete the picture. On the move he is true with correct reach and drive. If there had been a ‘Best Special’ then he was it.

2nd Molton’s Sh Ch Jayricnbrits Eternal at Braebrits. This 8yr veteran B can still move it with the youngsters. Super head, feminine with the correct attributes. Well laid shoulders with correct spring and depth of rib. Level topline and correct rear. Still a lovely mover.

3rd Coveney’s Tillybirloch Jem2yr D. A typey boy with a masculine head with correct eyes and ears. Well made front assembly with good spring and depth of rib. Short coupled and level topline to give him is correct shape. Correct rear angles. Today he was not as clean in his rear movement which moved him down the line.

Res Potter & Cook’s Sh Ch Tailliside Winter Berry VHC Mouton’s Patouche Acropole
